Common tile questions, answered.

How long does tile installation take?

Bathroom floor: 2–3 days. Backsplash: 1–2 days. Walk-in shower wall + floor: 4–5 days. Cure time for thinset and grout adds 24–48 hours before the surface can be used.

Do you waterproof showers before tiling?

Yes — we use Schluter Kerdi waterproofing membranes on every shower we install. This is the industry standard for permanent water containment and is required by code for steam showers.

Can tile be installed over existing tile?

Sometimes. If the existing tile is well-bonded and flat, we can install over it. More often we recommend ripping up old tile because it adds height (door clearances, transitions) and we can verify the underlying substrate. We assess each project on site.

What's the difference between porcelain and ceramic tile?

Porcelain is denser, stronger, less porous, and rated for higher traffic. Ceramic is softer, easier to cut, and cheaper. For floors we almost always use porcelain. For walls (showers, backsplashes), ceramic is fine and gives more pattern variety.
