Solid hardwood is the classic — full-thickness real wood that can be sanded and refinished four to six times over its life. We install site-finished and pre-finished oak, hickory, maple, and exotic species. Best for above-grade installs (not basements). If you want a floor your grandkids will still walk on, this is it.

Common hardwood questions, answered.

How long do solid hardwood floors last?

100+ years if maintained. Most solid hardwood we install can be refinished 4–6 times over its life, with each refinish adding 20–30 years of look. The flooring outlasts most other things in the house.

Can solid hardwood be installed in basements?

Generally no. Solid hardwood needs to be installed above grade — it'll cup and warp from the natural moisture in a below-grade basement. For basements we recommend waterproof LVP or large-format porcelain tile.

How long does hardwood floor refinishing take?

A typical 800–1,200 sq ft refinish takes 4–6 days from sanding through final coat cure. The home is largely off-limits during sanding (1 day) and the dust-settling/finish-cure period (3–4 days). We can do partial-floor refinishes that keep parts of the home usable.

Are Nova's hardwood crews certified?

Our refinishing crews are NWFA (National Wood Flooring Association) certified, and we work with Bona finishes for a low-VOC, fast-cure finish that holds up to family traffic.
